TASK
It all started in late 2017 when I joined the company at its early stage with only a handful of employees. Everything was still in its infancy. It was my job as a product designer to explore the future of human interaction in the virtual environment; and search for the untapped territory of virtual reality.

ROLE
The company grew rapidly in early 2018, and the UI/UX team was formed. I took on the role of UI/UX manager and also carried out my duty as a product designer on a daily basis. It was also the job of a product designer to ensure the communication went smoothly and common targets were in agreement between functionals teams. I was also one of key members to communicate with external stakeholders; to make sure that they were satisfied with what we had to offer.
PLAN
One of the tasks of a product designer was to define the overall scope of the product. The plan included different aspects of the product that needed to be developed and collaborated with other business partners. It also defined the architecture of the product and the relationship between other service providers.
HAND TRACKING
& INTERACTIONS
One of the ideas of making the VR headset more accessible to the users was eliminating the use of controllers; that made hand tracking to be the primary interaction within the virtual world. I was the project owner in charge of the design of hand interaction, and also managing a group of software engineers as a scrum master; in order to develop the technology required to achieve the interaction desired.
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
& APPLICATIONS
In order to create a standalone VR headset with a virtual world built-in, the whole team had to design and develop its own system software and applications to deliver the experience planned in the project scope. I led a team of UX and UI designers—including myself as a UX designer—to plan and design all the structures and interactions of the system software and all sorts of applications in the virtual world.
MOBILE APP
A companion mobile app was also made to undertake some of the most important functions, such as account management, avatar generation, hardware setup, social features and more. I was the sole designer working on the app to cover a wide range of different topics; in order to do so, I had to equip myself with a variety of knowledge and worked with almost every department within the company.
ANNOUNCEMENT
The company made the first product announcement of its VR headset—XRSPACE MOVA—in May 2020. During the press event, the dream of building a new generation of virtual reality was revealed. After nearly 3 years of planning and development, it finally made it this far. However, it was only the beginning. Will this virtual society become people's reality? Only time will tell.
