TASK
The mission was to help the company to tap into the wellness business. The objectives were:
-
Massively improving current solutions with better structure.
-
Discovering new possible products of health and fitness.
-
Extending experience with potential services.
-
Exploring business connections with other organizations.
ROLE
My role was a design strategist leading a team of 3 including a visual designer, a user experience designer and myself, and collaborating with other designers. After numerous discussions and brainstorming sessions, ideas and thoughts were consolidated into a plan, which was my team’s job to develop into a proposal to communicate with all decision makers.
CONUNDRUM
At the time, ASUS offered two different series of wearable devices - ZenWatch and VivoWatch. There were also two different applications specifically developed for them - ASUS Wellness and ASUS HiVivo. Although ZenWatch and VivoWatch were marketed towards different target audiences, the applications offered many similar functionalities; It was seen as a waste of developing resources and causing inconsistent user experience between similar products under the same brand. We also aimed to solve this issue by combining them into one app.
PLAN
The plan was to have one application to support all ASUS mobile and wearable devices, collect all health and fitness related data and send them to the cloud for further processing and analysis. The data could be shared to other organizations with users’ consents in order to provide more free or paid services to help users to stay or progress toward being healthy even more.
PRODUCT
Meanwhile, new product ideas were being explored. Just like in most of the product development cycles, so many ideas were born, but only a handful of them survived and evolved into future products.
CONCEPT APP
The team made a concept mobile application to demonstrate what could be delivered to the users with some of the ideas from this whole exploration.

ZENFIT
Some of the ideas from the proposal moved on for further exploration. The concept app then became ZenFit. The idea of the fitness app was passed on to a user experience team to implement, and the members of the task force provided tremendous help during the development of the app and turned it into reality.
